Musicality in dance is the ability to move in time with the music and interpret the musicality in order to bring energy, emotion, and meaning to a piece of choreography. So, if their coordination is correct, the movements look effortless and this is what a dancer wants there audience to think.Dance is one of the most beautiful forms of expression, combining physical movement with musicality to tell a story. This is key to a dancer as they need to show, through there expressions that they are enjoying their dance movement and it them makes the audience want to what that dancer. In dance, coordination means moving a select number of limbs at one time, in a synchronized manor. The best way to improve it is to do core exercises, so you have a stronger core, making your posture instantly better. Again, a slouched posture can mean a short career for a dancer as you can do serious damage if dancing with a poor posture. Posture, in dance is how a dancer holds and supports there upper body. A very short dance career is in line for those who do not align their bodies properly. In dance, this means the position in which a dancers body is positioned throughout a routine, for example, in ballroom, your alignment is expected to be a grand, straight posture, where as in street, you may arch your back and do low movements. It can be used to express a dancer’s artistry, showing how creative they can be by interpreting the style and adding dynamics that relate to the style of the music, making them more interesting to watch. Musicality within dance is a skill where the dancer connects with the music, relating to movement of the genre. These, again are skills we mark ourselves on within our skills diary to assure us of what we need to do to improve said skill. These could be: Emphasis, phrasing, focus, timing, projection and many others. Whereas with the physical dance skills, they were more about using the body, interpretive skills are things that dancers need to asses and place into every single movement and action they perform. Interpretive dance skills are, again many skills in which a dancer must consider when performing. These are what we have to review ourselves on within our skills diaries, to say how we have improved on them, and what we need to do to progress further with them. To list a few, there is: Posture, alignment, strength, balance, stamina and many more. These skills are a range of different things that dancers have to think about during a routine. Physical skills during dance are many different things that a dancer would be marked on during an exam. Fosse used to move around the stage quite slowly when dancing, however, within Jackson’s routine, all the movement is fast paced with high energy. For example, with Fosse, the movements were similar to those we perform at the moment in Michael Jackson, but there are some notable differences, e.g. Stylistic qualities, within dance mean how a dancer, or dancers, executes the different dance genres, and their own specific style qualities.
